Aimhigher is a national programme which aims to widen participation in higher education by raising the aspirations and developing the abilities of people from under-represented groups.
Aimhigher partnerships build cross-sector relationships which break down the barriers that institutions and systems can unwittingly create for learners.
Funded activities include summer schools to give school pupils a taste of university life, mentoring by students, and visits by staff from higher education providers to work-based training providers.
Target groups are identified by Aimhigher areas, and include young people from
neighbourhoods with lower than average HE participation, those from lower
socio-economic groups,
and people from families with no previous experience
of HE.
