About Basingstoke Consortium

Aimhigher is a national programme which aims to widen participation in higher education by raising the aspirations and developing the abilities of people from under-represented groups.   The programme particularly focuses on young people from disavantaged social and economic backgrounds, and people with disabilities.

The programme is managed regionally, and in Hampshire & the Isle of Wight a wide range of programmes are offered such as:

  • University Campus visits
  • Residential Summer Schools
  • Masterclass and Taster Days

The Basingstoke Consortium manages a number of programmes on behalf of Aimhigher Hampshire & Isle of Wight.   These are:

  • Mentoring Programme: Eight colleges across the region work on one to one and small group work focusing on study skills and future plans.
Summer Schools





  • FE Ambassadors: Fourteen colleges are involved in this project.  Student ambassadors are recruited to support college officers advocate the benefits of college and university study.  The ambassadors speak to students at specifically designed events and activities.
  • 'Step Into' and Working Lunches:  Business focused events designed to give students an opportunity to visit local businesses, speak to employees and learn more about various sectors.
