Working in partnership > Employability Programme
This is one of the Consortium's newest but most valuable programmes. It addresses some of the issues that local employers tell us are important when young people come to them for work.
In a recent national survey, 68% of employers said they weren't satisfied with the business and customer awareness skills of school leavers, and this summer's local review of work experience showed that employers would most like students to improve their skills in areas such as communication and initiative.
People from business play a key role in our employability workshops, where students take part in practical activities which show the importance of generic workplace skills, attitudes and behaviours that apply across a variety of work contexts. These skills include:
| ► problem-solving | ► decision-making |
| ► time management | ► creativity |
| ► team working | ► flexibility and adaptability |
| ► literacy and numeracy | ► communication |
Businesses work with us to deliver a range of activities under this heading including:
AXA Wealth, Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, Vitacress Salads and Wote Street Employment Bureau have all run excellent employability workshops for us, and we need more employers to engage with us to develop these vital skills in young people.
