A taste of Japan
Pupils turned Japanese for the day when they took part in a taster event for the gifted and talented hosted by Queen Marys College.
Students took part in a number of workshops
and got to sample Japanese culture, etiquette, food, language, cinema, calligraphy and martial arts (ouch). They also learnt some basic Japanese phrases and the equivalent to the child’s song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” in Japanese.

Japanese students from the University of Winchester performed a traditional tea ceremony during lunchtime whilst students sampled food from the country's cuisine.
Student comments:
I had a great time at the Taste of Japan. I especially enjoyed the calligraphy lesson though it was a shame that we had run into other lessons so it was too short. I did like all the activities but I had trouble at the start of Aikido. Press ups on my wrists, I cringed at the thought. Overall, I would definitely come back as the day is very informative but mixes it with a simple way of learning.
