The Consortium is piloting a local project that focuses on developing a cross-phase approach to learning in primary schools. Working with partners, the project is using the science curriculum as a vehicle to raise aspirations, enterprise and WRL understanding for primary school pupils. Delivery and engagement is across feeder schools, post-16 and local business. This project is being developed as part of the Government's drive for local and sustainable enterprise education from 5-19. See Enterprise Village for more information.
Working with the Basingstoke & Deane 14-19 Partnership, this programme is designed to re-engage disaffected students back into education. Following a local audit of provision, a number of new courses have been developed for Year 10 and 11 students.
This programme brings together a range of partners (Connexions, local training providers and post-16 colleges) to provide local activities for 16-19 year olds. The activities are designed to raise confidence and aspirations, and lead participants back into education.
The Consortium is working with Connexions and Basingstoke College of Technology to deliver a programme for New Mums and Mums to Be. The programme aims to remove barriers to access, participation and achievement by providing opportunities to learn.
The Consortium works in secondary schools to deliver a wide range of STEM activities. Recent examples include: Crime Scene Investigators; Institute of Civil Engineers Challenge Day; Science and Technology Fairs; Construction workshops.
A wide range of businesses in Basingstoke & Deane provide schools with opportunities to visit their premises, and many give class based talks. These sessions offer students an insight into business life, the chance to talk to inspiring role models and take part in practical problem solving sessions.
Increasingly, the Consortium is working with secondary schools to develop cross-curricular and business focused curricular projects.
