Basingstoke Consortium is a charity and has been established in the town for 25 years. We promote and organise a wide range of practical opportunities for local young people to experience the world of work.

We work with all local secondary schools and academies, with Basingstoke College of Technology and Queen Mary’s College, Dove House and the Pupil Referral Units. We also work with a number of infant and junior schools. Our community links range from multinational companies like Visa Europe and AXA Wealth to smaller local businesses, organisations and charities like The Community Furniture Project and Allens Garage.

Our aim is to give young people an introduction to the world of work, to motivate, inform, raise self-confidence and develop skills for adult life. We do this through programmes based on business engagement: visits, talks, challenges, work experience and mentoring. All are designed to broaden awareness, answer questions and stimulate debate. We ensure that the appropriate health and safety checks have been done for all of our programmes.

The Community Furniture Project

Each year we work with thousands of young people. This is made possible through our strong links with business and the wider community: last year businesses volunteered a staggering 25,000 hours of time to our projects.

Students tell us how business engagement inspires them and raises their aspirations, whilst helping them to make better choices and to focus on their classwork and future career path.

If you have a question about any of the programmes we deliver, or your child’s work experience placement, please do contact us. Or perhaps you work for a local company that would like to get involved in our programmes or offer work experience. Please call Jackie Calvert on 01256 840710 for further details.
